A Dogs Christmas
We don't have grandchildren at the house, we have grand dogs and senior dogs. They represent family interactions on the holidays in many families.
We have the old senior dog who wonders and has to be redirected from time to time when he hits the wall.
An OCD companion who continually discusses the same subject. His is the swimming pool. From window to window he goes, howling to get out. He must swim til he is frozen. He swipes under your knees to steal out the door and jump in. He must be forcefully removed when he is quivering like an aspen, to be toweled off and prevent fatal hyperthermia.
Dainty twinkle toes in her Santa suit follows you along lithely wagging her tail if a treat is involved. She is glamorous in her Santa suit.
Big oafy galoot is the life of the party. She runs and sits in the pool, just for the fun of it. Runs, wet, runs, wet, until she too is removed. Mind you it is 40 degrees. Counter surfing is one of her hobbies.
One spotted puppy is achy and not herself. She feels best with a security blanket of a stuffed Elmo in her mouth.
Like all family events, food is a must. It doesn't matter what it is because savoring it, is not a priority. Only one major snarly fight and the holiday was otherwise a success.
