Big Bend II, Santa Elena Canyon

More of Big Bend on January 6. Big Bend is named for the big bend that the Rio Grande takes at its southern border as it flows into Mexico. Like many places we visit, you can spend a lot more time than you actually have. Driving to Santa Elena Canyon many rock formations rise up into scenic views. Along the way, we stopped in one area and hiked down to the Homer Wilson Ranch. At our destination of the canyon was another beautiful hike. The visiting area itself has many old buildings, but we ran out of time to look around. To close out the day, we had a fine meal at the Starlight Theater in Terlingua where they cut their own steaks from local beef. They have music on the weekends too.
