2/7-2/8/24. We traveled over to see more barrier islands and the famous wild horses of Chincoteague. In reality, the horses here are mostly fenced to protect them from humans. Next time we may stop at the north end of the Assateague Island in Maryland to see them run free. Nonetheless, the wildlife refuge is a scenic marsh and beachfront. It is a bird watcher's delight. We always like to see historic lighthouses. Our view from the Hampton Inn looking at the water and island bridge was a treat.
We traveled down to Emerald Isle where Erik was stationed when he first joined the Coast Guard over 30 years ago. To get there, we drove over the 17.6 mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. There are two tunnel sections to allow ships to continue there treks in and out of the Atlantic Ocean. We enjoyed the Atlantis Lodge with wall to wall windows in our room and easy access to walk as many miles as we would like on the beach. I can only imagine the volume of people here in season. We were pleasantly surprised with good food at Amos Mosquito's Restaurant.
