10/23 It was approaching the end of October so we needed to head back home. We still needed to cross Nova Scotia so we traveled via Halifax. The Halifax waterfront has much to offer. We looked across to George's Island Lighthouse, looked at old ships, artwork, unique shops, and many fine restaurants. We had the good fortune of finding SeaWatch bed and breakfast outside of town on the water. We enjoyed hearing all the stories of Stan and Elaine. He has lived his entire life on the property and at one time it was much more primitive. They have hosted many pig roasts and boating expeditions from their dock. After almost thirty years, it may close before long. We went on a walk to York Redoubt National Historic Site which seemed to be a place visited by locals even out of season.
The following day we went to Cape Split which is well worth the diversion. It was a seven and a half mile hike mostly through woods. Areas of the trail were a bit wet. Even on this windy day, we passed quite a few hikers. On the way back, we drove through very scenic farm lands and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Dickie-Baxter Taproom & Bistro in Canning.
