Las Cruces has much to offer, as the second largest city in New Mexico. The 1848 historic Mesilla Plaza has shops, individuals with wares, restaurants, and San Albino church. We stayed nearby at the Hacienda De Mesilla, which was a very pretty and friendly place. White Sands National Park is full of silica for as far as you can see. If you step on the dry sand, it flows like water. We also visited PistachioLand for a tour. Pistachio trees are from the Mideast and have to be grafted to other trees including mesquite to grow in the US. One of our favorite hikes was Dripping Springs, which will be in my next blog. On the way out of town, it was worth seeing the sculpted road runner made from trash. We almost missed it because going west, it was on the opposite side of Interstate 10.
