9/3023. Like everywhere we went on this trip, we could spend weeks. We headed up coastal Maine and stopped at Bunkers Seafood and Spirits at Bunkers Harbor. Perfect Maine, very rural, rocks, lumber and lobster marking buoys. For the next couple nights, we stayed right on the tidal edge of the Mathias River. Machiavelli River Inn parking lot is filled with ATVs ready to hop on the Downeast Sunrise Trail. The trail provides 88 miles just for them. You can travel along the coastal rim to the easternmost lighthouse, West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and hike on the trails, take steps down to the ocean rock, see diversity of trees and moss and laugh at what we named testicle tree. By then, it might be time for a beer or coffee and baked goods in Lubec. There you can see a Canadian Lighthouse across the inlet. We headed on over to Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge and hiked some more for we were dying to see a moose. Yet we saw none. We did happen upon a lost mother and son and gave them a lift back to their car, it is a big space with poor trail markers. We ended the day with a very peaceful stop at Cobscook State Park.
The following day on the way to New Brunswick, we stopped at Sue's Cobscook Bay Cafe for breakfast. Good food and that day, a one lady operation. We bused our own table and helped serve our own coffee.
