We paid a visit to Tombstone on 1/13/23. It is most known for the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. It is really unclear who were the good guys. The town maintains its Old West persona and only the tourists are dressed in modern clothing. We enjoyed a mine tour of an old silver mine, which is what brought prosperity to Tombstone in the 1800s. The miners were paid well, but it was hard dangerous work. Each miner was allotted 2 candles, which was not enough for a full shift. They ate down there and miners were getting sick and dizzy. Turns out, the cause was lead poisoning from their canned beans soldered with lead.
Bisbee has become an artsy town. We sauntered through, stopped at a great bakery and waited in line at the only window for service. We then enjoyed a beer and left town. We were off to nowhere because there really isn't anywhere to stay the night going east for miles.
Ultimately, we found a small hotel with 4 rooms in Columbus,NM. It was owned by an older gentleman with many trades. He had an exwife who lived on the premises and a girlfriend across the border. The place was quite nice and we enjoyed the experience.
We had a quick meal at the only place open and returned to be greeted with margaritas. He offered to take us to Mexico and after making sure we weren't getting ourselves in trouble, we enjoyed a quick tour of Puerto Paloma's. He dropped us off for breakfast and left. We enjoyed our meal, went to the Pink Store, bought some hand blown glasses and tequila, and then walked back to the US.
