2/23.
Camden was so beautiful with many hiking places close by. We had great weather in the 30 to 50 range, unlike the week before when it was a record -15. We splurged at the lovely Camden Harbor Inn where we could look at the harbor out to Curtis Island and up into town through different windows.
The Megunicook river ends in falls that rush under city buildings into Camden Harbor. Many years ago a woolen mill was powered off the falls. You can hike along Harbor Park, wonder along residential homes that range in age from new to the 1800s.
Camden library is worth a visit. I rarely go in libraries when visiting a new place, but it is a National Historic Landmark established in 1928 and full of history. The original library is much older, but burned in 1892 in a fire that destroyed the Camden business district. Camden boasts many authors including Edna St. Vincent Millay.
Many of the shops and restaurants are closed for the season. 2 restaurants we ate at are worth mentioning. I have no pictures, but the best food was Franny's Bistro. Pictured is the Waterfront where we had great ambience. Next time we will get chowder and bread and make it a meal.
2 books I enjoyed reading were "Fellowship Point" by Alice Elliot Dark and "The Maine Massacre" by Janwillem Van De Westering. The first is about an old woman spending summers in Maine through out her life. The second is a humorous mystery that depicts Maine winter well.
